TOTAL TANZANIA SUPPORTS 1,500 GIRL STUDENTS WITH SANITARY PADS

Every month there are girls who are missing class for 3-7 days in Tanzania due to period poverty. This is why in celebrating the International Women’s day Total Tanzania entered into partnership with Flaviana Matata Foundation to donate sanitary pads to girl students in the country. The partnership was launched and announced on 8 th March 2021 at East Oysterbay Service Station in commemoration of 2021 International Women’s day.

Speaking during the event, Total Tanzania Director of Legal and Corporate Affair, Marsha Msuya announced that “Total Tanzania Ltd in partnership with Flaviana Matata Foundation ought to make sure that a girl does not miss a day at school due to lack of sanitary towels. Total will provide over 9000 sanitary pads to students who cannot afford such means of sanitary protection, we intend to support and empower girl students by giving them confidence to attend school even on their menstrual days.”

The Network Director, Marieme Sow further elaborated on how Total Tanzania intends to donate and support girls in the country through their network of over 100 stations in the country, “Here at Total we wanted to do our part during this month of celebrating women. For every liter of fuel sold in our stations, we will donate Tsh1 to purchase sanitary towels for students. I would love to call on all Tanzanians, men and women to join us, this is a chance to ensure a girl fully gets her education, for educating a girl is educating a whole society. Let’s come together to put a smile on a girl child.”

Flaviana Matata Foundation founder and CEO, Flaviana Matata added how grateful she is to Total Tanzania choosing to work with her foundation to support girls in the country and challenged all Tanzanians to be part of empowering a girl student, “I am so grateful for Total  Tanzania choosing to partner with Flaviana Matata Foundation to inspire, empower and support young girls by giving them sanitary towels which are essential for their health and education. I challenge all Tanzanians to be part of this fight for girl students by fueling up at Total Stations because Tsh 1 in every liter you buy will contribute to purchase sanitary towels for students.”
